Forge really is so simple to use and people love it for that.
But, don't be fooled. Behind the facade of elegant simplicity, Forge is bending, punching, welding and finishing - to make sure your sites are deployed in the right way.
Since taking over Forge, I've heard all sorts of great things about the deployment experience on Forge. However, it's not always rainbows and sunshine in Deploytown. Things go wrong. Most of the time, it has to be said, is due to people trying to upload all kinds of crazy stuff and expecting it to work. Sometimes the system still has a funny moment and the deployment fails and when that happens, all you get is this...
Why? Why? WHY?
There's not much feedback as to why it failed and as a result, you turn to the Support Chat for guidance. Since I've been working the support, deployment issues are the single biggest reason you get in touch.
Don't get me wrong, it's great to hear from you, but I'd much prefer to do so when you're raving about a new feature or just so bowled over by how quick and easy the product is to use, or how you used Forge to improve some part of your product or business - so I really want to remove any frustrations in this area.
What if you could actually see what is happening and where things go wrong? What if you could take a peek inside the melting pot of the Forge smithery. So we built the Console.
You'll now find this little icon whenever you upload a new Version of your site and it starts deploying. Click it and you'll see the new Forge Console chug quickly through your files and prepare them for the world to see.
This is just the first version, displaying some of the main messages and processes, we'd love to hear what you think, if it's helpful and what more you'd like to see it do. Keep an eye out as we roll this out over the next 24 hours.
